Anya Rubin reflects upon the social, political and spiritual conditions of contemporary culture as it is mediated by today’s fast-paced technology. Rubin is referencing the techniques of art movements of the past, but also manipulating the commercial aesthetic of social media in her artistic process. Working in painting and digital rendering, Rubin creates an expressionist record of this current zeitgeist through her utilization of figures, historical references and fragments of everyday life in her multi-dimensional surfaces.
