About One-Eighth Theater

One-Eighth Theater was founded with the desire to create new, bold, innovative theatre. Artistic Directors Daniel Irizarry and Laura Butler Rivera have been creating theater together since 2002, and in 2008 they gave birth to what is now known as One-Eighth Theater. Inspired by Ernest Hemingway’s thoughts on writing and specifically his short story “Hills like white elephants.” Known as Hemingway’s Iceberg Theory, he explains that not all information should be given, and that some things are better left unexplained or open to interpretation. The tip of an iceberg is only one-eighth of what’s there, so much more lies beneath the surface. We apply that idea to the creation and productions of our work.
